Great tunes from Mezoseg and Kalotaszeg in the
Muzsikas mould!
Sándor Csoóri, once the leading personality of the legendary Muzsikás Ensemble, and his new band, Ifjú Muzsikás’ have made their first recording; a recording fusing revival and tradition.
The origin of the name
Ifju Muzsikás and Muzsikas
"I got the name Muzsikás from my teacher, István
Ádám jr. - the kontra player - in a pub in the village of Szék in
Transylvania in August of 1973. I said: we started a band in Budapest.
What shall we name it? We haven’t found a name that would be good. I was
seventeen. He thought for only a moment, then looked in my eyes as if he
could see far into the future and said, Muzsikás... Muzsikások, that’s
what we are too. Call it Muzsikás ensemble, God Be with You Sándor, and
with the band too.
Twenty-five years have passed since then... The world
has changed and so has Muzsikás. The old spirit has been re-born in
another form, in my new band, Ifjú Muzsikás."
Sándor Csoóri
"A good fifteen years ago now, during a party at my place, someone used a sharp object to scratch the words ‘this is a good record’ in one of my favorite records. In the midst of my astonishment and anger, I had to admit that they were right. The Muzsikás’ first record really was a good record. Now however those old times and feelings can only be brought back by reminiscing. For me this isn’t enough, but now Sándor Csoóri, once the leading personality of the legendary Muzsikás Ensemble, and his new band, Ifjú Muzsikás’ have made their first recording; a recording fusing revival and tradition. I am sure that there will come a time when someone, driven by a burst of enthusiasm, will take it upon themselves to express the same sincere statement of quality, ‘this is a good record’ on the much smaller surface of this CD as well. And they’ll be right. And then, don’t fret about the damage, just buy another one!"
