Guaguanco New York style! The
original Guaguanco rhythm is, strictly speaking, a variation of the rumba
from Cuba, but in 1960s New York it meant something else. If a band or
orquesta played 'Guaguanco' they were playing hard no nonsense straight-ahead salsa! Typically this would feature tight arrangements
around a three or four piece brass section, driven along by some of the
best percussionists from second generation Cubans and Puerto Ricans.
This
collection showcases some of the very best combos and orquestras playing
'Guaguanco' in the Big Apple, New York style!
