'LATIN SOUL captures the extraordinary burst of musical colour that exploded in the late 1960's and early '70's when black R&B boogaloo'ed with brown rhythms, when the hip sounds of Afro-Harlem mingled with those of Spanish Harlem. English lyrics, hot horn hits, raw Latin percussion and soul vocals all combined to create a disgracefully impure but quite irresistible, ass-wiggling experience. In these fifteen cuts, LATIN SOUL covers the spectrum from the sweet sounds of Joe Bataan and the TNT Boys to the rawer, sock-boogaloo style of Joey Pastrana and Ray Barretto.
