Eliot Rivera

'The Singing Sax'

(LA1000-01)

Label - Latin Americana Records

From record label:
"Eliot Rivera was born in San Juan Puerto Rico and raised in Red Hook, South Brooklyn of New York City. Coming from a Pentecostal religious background, he was inspired by his Father as a child to sing at large Church district gatherings, thus, was his first introduction to music.

It was during this period that he began to enjoy the sounds of DOO WOP MUSIC. He was largely influenced by groups such as Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Little Anthony and singers such as Jackie Wilson, Bobby Darin and many others. He eventually formed his own DOO WOP group, which entertained, throughout the tri-state area. During that time he joined a group called the ‘CUPIDS’, which at the time had a hit single called ‘BRENDA’. It reached number ten on the record charts.

Soon after he joined the Mike Maiello Orchestra where he was exposed to Italian American music and was able to enhance his musical talents. He brought his style of playing to the band using Latin Percussion instruments and Saxophone adding a new dimension of Latin Jazz to the band. Being bilingual, he was able to sing in Spanish and English thereby expanding the repertoire of the orchestra, a practice that he follows to date.

Shortly after, Latin Music beckoned and he joined the ‘ Lebron Brothers Orchestra’ singing all of the ‘Boogaloo songs which was the popular sound of that era and were mainly sung in English. The Lebron Brothers are also responsible for coining the international phrase ‘Salsa’ with the release of their album entitled ‘Salsa y Control’. Eliot is considered to be one of the founding fathers of Salsa music due to his contribution during that era. While with the Lebron Brothers he was
able to tour most of Latin America including Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo, Columbia and many other countries.

He appeared on many of the popular Latin talk shows such as Polito Vega and Myrta Sylva. He was also the lead vocalist on many of the Lebron
Brothers
albums such as ‘Psychedelic Goes Latin’ ‘ The Brooklyn Bums’, ‘I Believe’ among others. Songs included “Summertime Blues, You’ve Lost That Lovin Feelin’ and I Believe” which were number one hits for the Lebron Brothers Orquestra.

The albums were recorded on the ‘Cotique’ label and were produced by George Goldner who also produced Frankie Lymon, Little Anthony and many groups of the DOO WOP era.

Eliot performs a solo act which includes songs by Eddie Palmieri, Ricardo Ray, Lionel Richie, Joe Cuba, The Lebron Brother, Engelbert Humperdink, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, The Temptations, Tito Nieves, Kenny Rogers, Larry Graham, Esmeralda, Louie Armstrong, Heatwave and many others. He is known as, The Singing Sax.

Latin Americana Records proudly presents Eliot Rivera’s first solo album and his first recording in over 35 years titled “The Singing Sax” including a brand new recording “Llanto De Lares” and his classic hits from the 60’s and 70’s."
