'Radu Simion (born 1940 in the village Sefan cel Mare, Arges district) is one of the most gifted interpreters of the "nai" (pan pipe). He graduated from the Music School No. 1 in Bucharest as one of the most cherished pupil of the famous pan-pipe player Fanica Luca, being afterwards a soloist of the Bucharest Folk Music Ensemble "Perinita".

Radu Simion played across the world revealing his remarkable talent in over 34 countries of four continents (Europe, America, Asia and Africa). From the very beginning he distinguished himself in many concerts, festivals and artistic tours in Romania and abroad.

The extraordinary artistic activity carried on by Radu Simion was rewarded by numerous prizes and distinctions: the first prize at the Republican Festival of the music schools (1954), Laureate at the International Festival of Youth and Students in Helsinki, Finland (1961), the first prize at the Festival in Bursa, Turkey (1965), the first prize at the Festival in Skoplje, Yugoslavia (1966), the golden medal at the Festival in Cartagene,Tunisia (1967), the Golden Necklace in Dijon, France (1967), the "Cultural Merit" medal first class (1969)'.
