Extract from CD sleeve notes:
"...Born in Calieni, Vrancea County, MARIA COSTIN MURGOCI would confess,
'I am proud to be born here at the southern boundaries of Moldavia where 'Miorita'
(Little Ewe Lamb) and 'Chiparusul' were created and the spirit of the Great Union still lingers. This land basking in legend and pervaded
by the Holy Spirit is where my songs are born.
Maria, a delicate nature, kept her energy and optimism through today's unholy tendencies and stayed a faithful supporter of authentic art bravely rejecting compromise. This is what characterizes her entire activity ever since 1982 when she was teaching folklore at the Art School in Focsoni. In 1995 she was the director of the Folklore Ensemble
Tara Vrancei (Vrancei County) a model artistic institution for both town and municipality.
Under the title 'Come, Romanians, join the girdle dance' 20 folk songs are gathered from the Vrancea area. Here are some of the most representative and well-polished songs of this folkloric area. It is entirely the merit of the artist that she succeeded
in bringing together so different songs, from the dance song, that gives the name of the album, to ballads (The Ballad of Stefan the Great) or wedding songs (Weep you bride and sob!).
Due to her beautiful voice, MARIA COSTIN MURGOCI gives a masterful interpretation to the whole range of songs, so different in character or tempo, be they new or old, to the joy of her fans and music lovers in that part of the country or everywhere.
The so gifted vocal interpretation is completed by the masterful accompaniment under the direction of a talented and passionate musician,
Marcel Ghinea.
The repertoire, the stage performance and attitude, the interpretation and respect for authentic value make
MARIA COSTIN MURGOCI a model for those in the service of folk song."
