Zurich). He has recently been concentrating on recording rare works of the cello repertoire (such as
George Enescu's Symphonie concertante, Jacques Offenbach's Concerto militaire, the concertos of Eugene
a 'Albert and Anatol Vieru or the Variations of Andrew Loyd Webber).

education and graduating from the Bucharest Academy of Music he attended
master classes in piano and harpsichord, whilst also studying the organ. In 1968 he became a member of the
George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra. Bucharest, where since
January 1991, he has also been Artistic Director. Since 1973, Nicolae Licarel
has embarked upon a constant stream of concert activity, playing the harpsichord, organ
and piano under such conductors as Carlo Zecchi, Witold Lutoslawski and Igor Markevitch, and alongside
soloists such as Henryk Szeryng, Jean-Jacques Kantorow and Gheorghe Zamfir.
He participates in numerous festivals all over the world and has performed in all the major concert halls
in Europe and beyond. He appears as a concert soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, founder-performer of
