"Chick Corea is one of the most exciting and most original and – I am sure – one of the greatest composers of our time.
'Children’s Songs', the cycle of piano pieces composed of twenty movements, appeared in 1984 on CD. I heard it first 15 years ago then got the score and learnt the pieces and they became parts of my everyday life. I could not help thinking that these short movements are so diversified and colourful that parts of them could become chamber music. Later when I had the opportunity to accomplish this idea with the quartet
Kairosz, I started to do it. As a composer, I was at least similarly excited to re-think these little pieces. I do not want to say that they are not perfect as they are. But they are so rich in ideas that certain themes are worth extending, re-interpreting and re-thinking. It was a game – a liberated and joyful game. So the music commentaries came to life: transitional pieces between improvisation and variation; the previous ones more compacted, the latter ones freer. Intimate and rich pieces came thus to life with a changed composition because of the ten music commentaries therefore the original series within the cycle had to be modified, too. In honour of Chick Corea! We, members of Kairosz do hope that we succeeded in emphasising the richness of „Children’s Songs” with a different approach."
Csaba Vedres
Csaba Vedres was the original pianist in the Hungarian progressive group After Crying. With
Kairosz Quartet, his goal is to perform accessible contemporary classical music. The long-term goal of
Kairosz is to occupy a mid-point position in the musical life, similarly to the Brodsky or Kronos Quartets.
