Founded in 1981 by Gábor Reothy, Vasmalom - like other well-known Hungarian
folk bands and performers (e.g. Muzsikás, Márta Sebestyén, Vujicsics
Vizönto, etc.) - first made their mark in the local folk music revival and dancehouse movement of the early 70s. The unique sounds of regional folk instruments such as the bagpipes, cimbalom, ütogardon and others are heard in their music.
The band had played several successful concerts during the last few months, such as the Festival Cantigas Do Maio, Seixal (Portugal), Severn Revels, Forest of Dean (England) Festival Mare de Agosto, Santa Maria (Azores), Music in the Castles Festival, Liguria, Italy. They are preparing their fourth album to be released next year. This summer
VASTÁNC (Vasmalom Dance Project) came into being, a spectacular show with musicians, dancers and stilt walkers presenting the special atmosphere of the traditional culture of folk music, folk dance and traditional popular comedy in Hungary.
