Part of the Teka Village Music 'Mestereink'
series.
This CD is a representative collection of recordings from the archive of
Mihály Bársony (1915-1989). As well as an accomplished musician, Mihály
was one of the last traditional hurdy-gurdy makers and much of what we
hear on this CD was recorded by him in the village of Tiszaalpár,
Hungary.
Mihály Bársony achieved much fame in his lifetime as a folk musician
and, as well as himself, other members of his family feature on these
recordings. The recordings were made 20 to 30 years ago and are unique
documents of the instrumental music of the southern part of the Great
Hungarian Plain.
This music is the source of much of the modern folk music now being
recorded in Hungary and is released on the Teka Village Music label.
