From record label:
"The first part of this CD contains authentic, and arranged folk material. These tunes were
originally connected to the significant days of the year or a particular period of one's life.
The second part of this CD is a Ballad, created by several different folk tunes. The
ballad in the Hungarian traditional folk art is a genre, of tragic or comic stories. It's typically brief. The events of the story are by the introduction. The
ballad of the bartered bride - who loses her love and gets extremely desperate - ends tragically, the maid looses her sanity. The big thief melody foreshadows the final dramatic conclusion and purifying.
The ballad's plot is the following: our maid has a sweetheart in the village (track 8), but her mother sells her to the rich baron (track9). After a farewell song (to her sweetheart - track 10), her lover goes to serve the army (track 11), while she is forced to marry the rich baron. She learns that her husband,
whom she does not love what so ever, is the feared highwayman of the region. In her shame and pain the maid murders her husband, but under the pressure and her conscience she gets desperate, and turns insane (track 12). On this CD the ballade closes with the recapitulation of the maid's love songs (track 13)."
