Great arrangements and playing with a crystal clear sound make this an essential listen.

'One of the best known fiddlers of the Hungarian folk revival in Transylvania in the 1980s, Gazsa takes us on a folk music journey through historic Hungary, from the Uplands (today part of Slovakia) to the village of Kommando, which is situated where the ranges of the Eastern and Southern Carpathians meet.

Next stop is south Hungary, where some villages are populated by Romanians. Kalotaszeg isa region to the west of Kalozsvar (Cluj) in Transylvania, famous for its folk art. Variations of the same tune were played by famous local peasant fiddlers in their own styles.

Gazsa's mother was born in Mezoseg (Transylvanian Heath). The piece 'Memories of Home' recall the music of the villages where Gazsa often played at weddings and dances in his youth.

The journey concludes at Kommando, where every summer lovers of folk dancing meet for a week to learn some gypsy dances of Transylvania.'
