From record label:
"On the latest of our series of archive recordings we feature the music of the
Vajdaszentivány Band, one of the most outstanding ensembles of the Maros region. The influence of the modern era is revealed not only by the bass guitar, but also in the repertoire. Have a good time!"
"As a musician involved in the dance house movement from its development in the 1970's. I have been engaged since that time in the collection of instrumental folk music. During my collecting trips to Marosszék it was while in Marossárpatak that my attention was first drawn to
Elek Horváth from Vajdaszentivány, who in those days was regarded as a prímás (lead violinist) among the very best to be found in the neighbouring villages. I sought him out for the first time in January 1982, on which
occasion his playing so impressed me that within a short period I visited him several times. One aspect of these visits involved our attendance at traditional balls or weddings during
which we endeavoured to also record Elek's playing fulfilling its primary function. On this album we would like to present selections from these early recordings from 1982 and 1983 demonstrating the traditional dance sequences at
wedding feasts and Gypsy balls."
