CD ROM
'Collected Village Music From The Transylvanian Plain From The Collection Of
Final Hour Program
(1997-1998)'
Label - Fono, Hungary
This is a CDRom which only plays in computers. The CD Rom contains text,
photos, music mp3s etc., all relating to the Final Hour program. This was a
research program investigating the traditional folk music of Hungary.
The Final Hour Program
"One of the largest folk music collection undertakings of the first half of the 20th Century was known under the name
’Pátria’. Thanks to the organizational work of the young Hungarian folklore researcher
Gyula Ortutay, peasant music
was for the first time recorded at the Hungarian Radio studios actually performed by peasants. With the cooperation
of specialists from the Hungarian Ethnographical Museum, the series of recordings began without any limits on time or
quantity. The intention was to record everything of ethnographic worth from the entire Hungarian language area,
under the professional direction of Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály and László
Lajtha. In the nine year period until 1942, 125 master recordings were made - from which 107 records were pressed and commercially released by
Péter Pál Kelen’s PATRIA Company. The series included folk music, folk tales, information on customs and religious songs,
representing the characteristics of all Hungarian folk music dialects.
Fulfilling Bartók’s original concept, Fonó Records re-released the material from the original 78 rpm Pátria records on
CD-ROM: 1210 songs, sheet music, lyrics, photos and information."
