3x CD
Mammoth 3 CD compilation of hits and standards from the world famous Serbian Guca
Trumpet Festival.
Gypsy brass band from Serbia playing kolos and coceks, from the Guca Trumpet Festival in
Serbia.
Each year since 1961 Serbia plays host to the Guca Trumpet Festival, officially called the
'Dragacevo Trumpet Festival', but known to most after the village where it is held: Guca. It is here where mainly Roma Gypsy brass bands from all over the Balkans congregate and compete for the 'Golden Trumpet' award. When not competing at the festival the Roma bands can be found playing at weddings and other
occasions.
About Guca:
It is in the Guca (pronounced GOO-chah) Village, Dragacevo, Serbia, that each year the best Serbian and Gypsy brass orchestras meet for the now famous Folk Festival held there. Towards the end of the festival there is held a competition, the winners being awarded the 'Golden Trumpet and 'First Trumpet'. It was in 1961 that this competition started and this CD compiles some of the best of the winners over the many years.
The festival in Guca can be a frantic affair with many bands vying for public attention. The songs and melodies they play
reflect the Serbian way of life and are typically heard at social events such as weddings, funerals, farewell parties, baptisms, etc as well as celebrating a good harvest or similar good fortune. The folk circle dance, or chain dance, named the Kolo and the Cocek are favourites amongst the audiences.
