Serbian gypsy brass orkestar music. This music is traditionally celebrated and played at the Guca festival in Central Serbia for decades.

A compilation of the winning songs of the trumpet masters who won the Golden Trumpet award several times: Mica Petrovic, Bakija Bakic, Milan Nikolic-Donja, Fejat Sejdic, Svetozar Lazovic, Radojko Vitezovic, Slobodan Salijevic, Boban Markovic, Stojan Krstic, Raka Kostic, Jovica Ajdarevic, Bosko Ostojic, Milivoje Stanimirovic, Ekrem Sajdic and others.

Each year since 1961 Serbia plays host to the Guca Trumpet Festival, officially called the 'Dragacevo Trumpet Festival', but known to most after the village where it is held: Guca. It is here where mainly Roma Gypsy brass bands from all over the Balkans congregate and compete for the 'Golden Trumpet' award. When not competing at the festival the Roma bands can be found playing at weddings and other occasions.


It is in the Guca (pronounced GOO-chah) Village, Dragacevo, Serbia, that each year the best Serbian and Gypsy brass orchestras meet for the now famous Folk Festival held there. Towards the end of the festival there is held a competition, the winners being awarded the 'Golden Trumpet and 'First Trumpet'. It was in 1961 that this competition started and this CD compiles some of the best of the winners over the many years.

The festival in Guca can be a frantic affair with many bands vying for public attention. The songs and melodies they play reflect the Serbian way of life and are typically heard at social events such as weddings, funerals, farewell parties, baptisms, etc as well as celebrating a good harvest or similar good fortune. The folk circle dance, or chain dance, named the Kolo and the Cocek are favourites amongst the audiences.
