Petko Radev founded the Bulgarian National Radio Folk Orchestra in the 1970s making an immediate impression on listeners with its new musical sound, new type of improvisations and fascinating introductions. They attain a new height in the interpretation of Bulgarian music folklore, which responds to the creative requirements of a whole generation of folk musicians. Radev applies the best devices of the Thracian instrumental tradition to his performing. Making use of his classical training, he transfers to the studio and stage the brilliant and sophisticated sound, combined with his free stylistic improvisations. Many folk musicians learn from his talent and he himself is the creator of a school for interpreting of Bulgarian folklore. "This collection of mainly instrumental music is a compilation of material recorded by the influential clarinetist Petko Radev with accordionist Petko Dachev for the Balkanton label in the 1970s. Backed by a little band of violin, guitar, bass and sometimes a tapan drum, plus a few guest stars, the two musicians run through a fine selection of hard-driving, rhythmically complex tunes, full of carefully turned breaks arid harmonic surprises.
