Three singers and their composer have created an original art based on folk music, featuring an original
point of view, keen insight and emotionality. The familiar folk songs have been given a
new and quite different sound; they appear the way we wish to hear them.
Songs from Shoppe, Macedonian, Rhodope, Strandja, and Thrace, performed with an exquisite taste and
feeling. A masterful variety of Bulgarian folk musical dialects, the singers
show an amazing skill in alternating betwen the
diverse sound colouring and nuances.
The blending of voices, the timbre
unison with the traditional folk music is the trademark of these three women's beautiful
singing. Featuring a specific synchrony of voices, the singers from the Trio
"Bulgarka - Penev" create a peculiar timbre effect in a wide range, quite
unknown to folk singing in the past. In the use of acappella songs they sound as a
many voiced choir, while other of their performances are
reminiscent of musical instruments with polyphonic harmony. And in the solo fragments one
is made to realise that each of the singers possesses the talent of a soloist with a
characteristic voice of her own.
