A collection of performances by the Bulgarian State Radio and Television Female Vocal Choir, recorded by Marcel Cellier.

The traditional music here, female vocals mostly a cappella, splits the difference between early European plainsong and Middle Eastern folk music, and as a result, the harmonies seem both familiar and exotic, and ultimately thrilling.

Beautiful songs with densely packed harmonies and staggering rhythmic patterns. From dirges to lullabies, hypnotic chants to songs of celebration, the voices soar with a simultaneous intensity and delicacy that is celestial in nature.
