From
record label:
"There has already been written enough on Iva Bittová, on her multi-genre music or talent, her success in the country and abroad. And again
Iva Bittová can surprise us by something new. All this is included in her new DVD, called Superchameleon. The first DVD of
Iva Bittova contains, as the title is already suggesting, very various material. DVD can be divided into three parts.
The basis is a ninety-minute exceptional concert with the ensemble of contemporary music from New York called Bang On A Can All-Stars, which was recorded in Akropolis in Prague on 26 March 2006. On the concert the songs were heard from album called Elida, which was recorded in New York with BOAC All-stars and won the general appreciation. It was just the concerts in September of the last year to suggest by their great atmosphere the preparation of recording of this year’s concert. However not only pieces from Elida were heard on the concert, but also the songs from older repertory, which
Iva Bittová played solo – only vocals and violin. And so we can remind ourselves again, thanks to DVD, of the mesmeric atmosphere, which
Iva Bittová can create, no matter if she is alone on the stage or together with BOAC, when she uses All-Stars as her orchestra. Prolonged piano lines mingle with strings, while clarinet improvisation meets the noise of electric guitar. Music is at the same time sophisticated and direct, sharp and nostalgic, combining the classical music of the eastern Europe and folk customs. Untraditional connection of Iva Bittová vocals and piano creates inspiring melodies. The concert recording was directed by the director,
Jakub Kohák, who has won many awards and in this case he managed again to ennoble the result from the classic sterile concert recording to the excellent symbiosis of video, audio and atmosphere arisen in the hall of Palace Akropolis in Prague.
The second, no less important part of DVD is the selection from the Czech Television archive. The result is 18 carefully selected songs. In total it is a sixty-minute material, which shows
Iva Bittová in different periods and in various projects, rock, folk, folkloric or classical ones. The oldest record with the band
Maňana is from 1984. Further these are the pieces, which Iva Bittová recorded for example with
Škampovo kvarteto (Škampa Quartet), band Dunaj, with Dutch group
N.B.E or with Pavel Fajt. DVD of course cannot omit the pieces from the top album called Bílé inferno, which
Iva Bittová recorded with Vladimír Václavek or the legendary popularized ballad Zabili, zabili from musical Balada pro banditu (Ballad for Bandit) of Divadlo na provázku, which she recorded with
Miroslav Donutil.
The shortest 12-minute part of DVD is formed by the exclusive videocollage, which was created specially for this DVD. In the edited collage divided into five parts, one can see
Iva Bittová also in her first film role in the film Růžové sny (Rosy Dreams) and in other often rarity scenes. As a whole it makes the impression about the very indefinable artist with very wide scope of production."
"Trust me, Iva Bittová is pretty much a sure-fire guarantee of exquisite, unrepeatable musical experiences. Whether what emerges is high-flown or sensual, earthy or erotic, you don’t just hear her music, you experience it. Yet no matter how heady the ‘audio experience’ may be, if you know her music you remain keenly aware that hearing is but one of six senses. For the complete
Bittová experience, that vital visual element must be imbibed too. … ……..
