'They named their band after the Carpathians, the mountains that
surround the Hungarian ethnicity and have become the symbol of this region. The archaic
layer of the Hungarian folk music represents the base of our music.
Karpatia have learned the tunes and also how to play the instruments from archival
recordings and from village musicians who are still alive.
Their aim is twofold, on one hand, we would like to present authentic Hungarian folk
music to the word, on the other hand, starting from the roots, we would also like to
create contemporary music. They are certain that with acoustic instruments and through
traditional tunes and lyrics they can express the emotions and thoughts of the people of
their age. Therefore, their members keep experimenting in other music genres, such as
alternative, ethno jazz, world music and historical music.
Karpatia believe in Bela Bartok and other famous Hungarian geniuses who confess that
for an Eastern-European artist folklore is inevitable.'
