A GYPSYHOUSE ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCTION

'The Romano Trip project was born of several people coming from different cultures and connecting through music. How did it start?

An American guy fell in love with a Hungarian girl and decided to check out what Hungary was all about. There he met a theatre director and DJ deep down in the underground of Budapest. Based on his idea and partnering up with their Irish friend they all started working on the concept of uniting traditional dance and folk music with the modern world. From Budapest's talented creative pool, DJs were rounded up, music was made, a CD compiled and a theatre performance put together around the music.

This was the first release of GypsyHouse Recordings 'Etchno' the electronic re-thought of Eastern European folk music.

Then a French girl fell in love with a Hungarian guy and she settled in Hungary. She happened to be the manager of one of the most exciting Hungarian gypsy bands, Romano Drom, who also participated in the theatre show built around Etchno. Romano Drom thought for a long time about working with DJ's. When the protagonists finally met it was clear that something should be done.

The DJ's were happy to follow this unusual path of remixing the beautiful melodies of Romano Drom - filtering the alive gypsy rhythms through their chemical brains. And here is the result. This music started its life even before its release. Its been used in a movie, a TV spot against racism shown on all Hungarian TV channels, played on Hungary's unique gypsy radio station and represented on the Rough Guide to Hungary - a compilation by the well-known UK label World Music Network. YOU can now experience the results of this extraordinary cooperation with this CD.'
