It is not the first time that David Murray, one
of the most significant characters in Afro-American jazz has entered into
a special, some say bizarre musical adventure. This time he was gripped by
the music of gypsy cimbalom player Kalman Balogh and his band.
Their co-production is an exciting, incomparable feat in world
jazz. The result will enchant those who enjoy the dynamics of European
Roma folklore and fans of free spirit jazz.
Some may say the two different genres are incompatible, but the results
are a success due in most part to the musicians' open mindedness, their
mutual respect towards each other, and the richness in instrumental and
improvisational inventiveness.
