'Arasinda (which means 'Between') was formed by Hungarian musicians in Budapest in 1996.
They play authentic Turkish folk music. In their two-hour long concert program, songs from each regions of Turkey and songs from parts of the whole former ottoman empire are to be heard. These very popular songs are performed in Turkish with special Turkish singing techniques.
The accompaniment is played with authentic Turkish instruments (saz baglama, oud, kaval, zurna, davul etc.)
and also with instruments from other folk music and modern instruments (daf, gadulka, oboe, violin, guitar, bass guitar etc.).
On one hand, the unmistakable sound of the Arasinda comes from Turkish folk
music, on the other it comes from the personal improvisation style of the musicians.
The full title of this album is 'Whoever you are, come again!. The genuineness and spirit of the recordings are enhanced by the Turkish contributors: Selma Öles, Zümrüt Öles and Mehmet Erdem. On this album, the original instrumental playing techniques, the vocal parts and the beauty of the Turkish language - which is in most cases very similar to the Hungarian - have more sophisticated effects.'
