MUSICAL STYLE OF ZARKO MILANOVIC
Creative opus of Zarko Milanovic consists of a large number of folk and town songs
and circle dances (kolo) as well, which are originally performed pieces. Deep knowledge of
music and strong love for folk art have singled out and marked the creative opus of this
violinist. He has raised his music to the heights of the highest esthetic values of its genre.
Melodies played or the violin bv Zarko Milanovic show extreme music value,
sophistication and precision in the interpretation.
The whole creative opus reflects the love he had for folk songs and dances. When
listening to his interpretations one gets a picture of a great work of art, which comes from the bow of a man, who could create very high criteria in music.
Of sophisticated taste, Zarko Milanovic set high standards in respect of interpretation
of traditional music. Great artists - interpreters have always followed a few rules of music
language: melody, rhythm, text and ornaments, Their personal mark was reflected in the
manner they achieved their style and interpretation.
With Zarko Milanovic the melody had to be "understood", and the contents of the text
had an important role in melodic interpretation. Different moods had to be consistently
accomplished. The manner of dynamic shading communicated feelings and emotions.
Harmonizing of the orchestra and soloist strictly led to one goal only - the perfect interpretation of a song.
He paid special attention to ornaments (melismata), which were of great importance
for him. Zarko Milanovic took care of adding his own individual mark to the basic melody
of a circle dance or song. He took special care of melody origins, and applied ornamentation in respect of their number, shape and position in the note recordings accordingly.
Regarding tempo, he used practical methodology. He used to nuance the tempo of
each composition and adjust it to his interpretation. taste and large technical possibilities that he had.
He gave the most of himself with his violin. Bearing the music within himself, he
conveyed the notes to hearts of many admirers of good folk song. Rich musical
phrases, legato passages, ornaments characteristic for this great music
virtuoso, make the style of this master unforgettable. The sound of his violin is recognizable even in the first
measures,
The great artist, Zarko Milanovic, will refresh through his music our memories of past
and great folklore value of our music heritage. He is one of the most prominent guardians
of our tradition.
