Lorza organised Sexteto Café with a line-up inspired by the great vibes-led

Special offer #12: Three Klezmer Jewish CDs:
Audio CD: Klezmic noiZ - Davka (WBM21017)
"Klezmic noiZ is a group of seven true-born Antwerp "di Gojim".
Violinist Deben Benedict Van Damme founded the group end 1996. Their aim is
clear: to bring their own interpretations of klezmer music from the Yiddish
repertoire. Their city roots are injected with the Jewish heritage and
transformed into succulent revelry and melancholic tunes. Just as their choice
of music is not accidental, neither is there choice of instruments. With the
violin as leading melodic instrument, the group harks back to the oldest
traditions of klezmer music, long before the clarinet made her appearance in the
traditional klezmer band. Flanked by the accordion and the soprano sax, the
violin provides the instrumental basis for a modern interpretation of an old
repertoire. This musical trio is supported by piano, bass and drums."
Audio CD: Jewish Songs from Bulgaria - Various Artists (GD157)
All songs arranged by Nikolai Kaufman. Ancient Jewish songs from
Bulgaria, these are sung in three different languages: Ladino (ancient Spanish
dialect of the Sephardim Jews), Yiddish and Hebrew. The authentic style and
dialect of these songs has been preserved as much as is possible, and they are
performed by the following choirs and soloists:
Audio CD: Chagall Klezmer Band - Regi Kerdes, Eternal Question (FA-232-2)
"...Chagall was founded in August 2001. The name of the band
represents our respect for the world famous painter, Marc Chagall.
Chagall had a very close connection with music. He learned to play the violin
and he listened to his uncle Noah's playing who became the model of the
violinist in a couple of Chagall's paintings, such as the famous Green violinist
and the "Purple" violinist. The Jewish traditions, holidays and
everyday life of his childhood made deep impression in his art. Family, loyalty
to friends and confidence were of great importance for him. In his pictures we
often see Jewish musicians laughing and crying together with village people..."

Originally released on the Borincano Record and now re-mastered for CD

El Cuatro has been included in these selections, creating an original atmosphere

Special offer #14: Three Romanian Folk CDs:
Audio CD: Laureatii Festivalului Concurs National de Folclor - Mamaia 2005 (EDC700)
Folk orchestra comprising cimbalom, kaval, violin etc playing traditional
Romanian folk songs. Romania is a country with a large spiritual wealth of rare
beauty and originality. Romanian folklore reflects the inexhaustible spring of
these beauties. It is a true thesaurus of doinas (doina is an elegiac song
typical of Romanian lyrical folk poetry and music), ballads, lullabies, love
songs, wedding songs or drinking songs and lots of girdle dances of a great
rhythmic and stylistic variety.
Audio CD: Outlaws of Yore, Les Haidouks d'autrefois (II) - Various Artists (ETHCD004)
"The lautari of Clejani are perhaps the most inspired and fervent of all
folk musicians in Romania. The exuberant, musical style of their native southern
region has certainly stimulated them in this respect. We must also take into
consideration the fact that the village is an old "music school" of
Muntenia which trains its disciples by requiring their total implication in the
art of their choice: sound, dance, gesture, pantomime. But it would be unfair to
ignore their superb endowment. The traits they all have in common are
imagination and impetuosity. Each musician, however, has his own distinct
personality, inclinations, aptitudes, qualities and performances."
Audio CD: Mielle Bibescu - Si Profesionistii Gypsy Jazz-Ului (EDC696)
Jazz music with a Gypsy swing from Romania.

Special offer #15: Three Wild Balkan CDs:
Audio CD: Kocani Orkestar - Alone At My Wedding (CRAW 25)
Kocani Orkestar - A Gypsy Brass Band from Macedonia. "With their new,
expanded line-up, mighty Macedonian brass band Koçani Orkestar are
wilder than ever, getting the entire audience up on their feet & dancing at
every concert. Their music is still based on Gypsy tunes from various parts of
the Balkans and on Turkish/Bulgarian rhythms, with a sprinkle of Latin flavour...
but this album is particularly devoted to the repertoire played by Gypsy bands
during wedding celebrations in Macedonia. This enables the Koçani Orkestar
to transcend the strict boundaries of the brass band genre : half of the tracks
showcase the vocal talents of their two new singers (charismatic, young Aljur
Azizov and accordionist Zlate Nikolov), and there are several small
ensemble pieces featuring instruments such as darbuka, banjo and clarinet. The
band's popular trademark thundering style is present as ever, with its powerful
rhythm section (drummer + four tubas) which rocks like a mutant Balkan funk
band, and its wailing, passionate soloists (Ismail Saliev on sax, Turan
Gaberov on trumpet and Deladin Demirov on clarinet)...."
Audio CD: Motion Trio - Play-Station (CD-ATR0705)
Polish accordion band with attitude. "Motion Trio reclaim the
sounds! This innovative Polish trio founded in 1996 has already successfully
changed the face of their instrument: The accordion. Most of the music played by
this ‘Trio Infernal’ so masterly is written by Janusz Wojtarowicz.
The vanguard sound collages range somewhere between minimal music, jazz and
disco polo - and meet the Notion of Motion: to redefine the accordion and
explore soundscapes far beyond what has been experienced and associated with
this instrument to date. On their album “Play-Station” the three musicians
from Cracow concentrate their efforts on reclaiming sounds from the digital
world. Six hands pick up electrically generated notes and turn them into
acoustic anthems on their instrument of choice: the accordion. All of a sudden a
'playstation' offers more than 100 buttons!"
Audio CD: Theodosii Spassov - Bratimene (GD132)
This is a compilation of Theodosii's best work from 1983 to 1998. Best described
as Bulgarian ethnic jazz, this features Theodosii accompanied by some of the
finest jazz musicians in Bulgaria.
